1855 (17 Nov.) wrapper to London bearing Port Hope despatch c.d.s. and bearing unframed "Paid" and "8d. Stg. 10d. cy" and boxed "registered", there is also a large manuscript "6" and a fine strike of the London large crown/"registered"; the reverse with large Toronto c.d.s. An appealing cover which is believed to be the second earliest registered cover from Canada to the U.K.

From May 1855 to December 1857 registered letters from Canada to the U.K. were charged an additional 1d. registration to be paid by the sender plus the appropriate packet postage (paid or unpaid) with the British registry fee of 6d. to be paid by the recipient.
