1855 (3 Oct.) stampless entire letter to Norfolk manuscript "Registered" and bearing Toronto Paid despatch c.d.s. and a very fine strike of boxed "registered" in red, rate marks of "1/8", "1/4" and "6", faint Liverpool Packet Letter Paid dated tombstone and Dereham arrival in green (24.10), the reverse with London and Thetford (green) transit c.d.s. An attractive and appealing cover. This is the earliest known registered cover from Canada to U.K.

Canada introduced its registration system on 1st May 1855. This letter was carried on the 'America' to Liverpool. The postage was 1/8d (double 10d.) plus 6d. registration (to be collected from the recipient)
