An Authentic Account of Embassy to China; C. Nichol, 1798; the set of three volumes. Board covers and some wear to the edge and damaged spines; the contents are in good order. Each volume contains a map
1. from Zhe-Hol in Tartary by land to Pekin and from hence by water to Hang-Tchoo-Foo in China
2. From Hang-Tchoo-Foo to Quang-Tchoo-Fou or Canton in China
3. A general Chart of Mercator's projection to shew the track of the ship 'Lion' and 'Hindostan' from England to the Gulph of Pekin in China and their return to England
This rare set is about a voyage undertaken by an Embassy from Great Britain to the Emperor of China over the period of 1790s. The narrative include the eye-witnessed description of the passage to the Ladrone Islands near Macao, and thence to Chusan, navigation through the Yellow Sea, the Ambassador's entrance into the river leading to Tientsin, progress of the Embassy along the Peiho toward the capital of China, and thence the departure of the ships from the Gulf of Pechilee and also the journey to the Northern frontier of China (the Great Wall)
