An accumulation of woodblock engravings, mostly cut from the Illustrated London News, 1857-60 (some on full pages) with several relating to Canton including battle scenes both naval and military, various views of Canton including military personnel, the Folly Fort and the Bogue Forts; some views of Hong Kong including Gillman's Bazaar and Victoria Harbour (1858); The Attack on the Peiho River and Tientsin; various North China and battles near Peking (2); some general illustrations of China and people including Commissioner Yeh, Howqua Garden near Canton; some general British related engravings and the 1858 Signing of the Treaty with the Earl of Elgin and Kwei-Leang.

Also some newspapers with Harper's Weekly 1859 (10 Dec.) with a long, illustrated article of Mr Ward at Pekin; The New York Times of 1861 (4 Jan.) with notes on the New Treaty between the Western Powers and China, (9 Jan,) which includes details of the Treaty of Tientsin, (25 Jan.) with a Telegram announcement of news from Hong Kong (water stained and damaged) and (29 Jan.) under Important from China, news relating to the Convention of Peking, letters of Lord Russell. A fabulous lot with a wealth and variety of illustrations and background information which would bring life to a study collection of this period.
