H.M.S. 'Melville': 1859 (26 Nov.) envelope to Rev. C.J. Armistead, HMS Melville, Hong Kong bearing 1855-57 4d. pair and 1d. Red tied by London duplex, marked "Rec'd 18 Jan. '60", no other postal markings

The 'Melville' had been Rear-Admiral George Elliot's flagship during the first Opium War but by this time was serving as a hospital ship. Rev. Armistead was the ship's chaplain
