H.M.S. 'Chesapeake': 1860 (25 May) letter from A.H. Markham to his brother in Wisconsin, U.S.A., originally on the 'Retribution' but transferred to the 'Chesapeake'; the opened-out envelope bears rate marks "6" (crossed through), "28", handstruck "33" in black and "Due ... 36", with New York Br Pkt (2.8), two strikes of Galesville c.d.s. (25.8) as redirected to Arcadia.


The letter includes, "... I have arrived alright in Hong Kong and am now belonging to the Chesapeake one of our crack 51 gun frigates... I think we shall sail for the North ? in about a fortnights time ..."


1860年5月25日由A.H. Markham 寄美國Wiscomsin 的兄弟信函, 本由"Retribution"號携往, 但後來轉為"Chesapeake" 携往美國. 封上分別有"6" (劃去), "28" 遞費註記, 黑色"33" 印記 及"Due….36" 等, 蓋8 月2日紐約Br Pkt 戳, 因轉遞往Arcadia 故而蓋了两枚8月25日Galesville 日戳. 信內容包括: “……我已經順利抵達香港, 現在屬於我們的 51 艘精銳護衛艦之一的切薩皮克號……我想我們大約兩週後將向北方起航..."
