Hong Kong Naval Depot: 1855 (8 Jan.) yellow envelope addressed to a Robert de Silver, U.S. Naval Store Keeper in Macao with a "1" (penny) rate mark and a good strike of the double oval "united states naval depot/hong kong" with the eagle motif in the centre, the reverse bears a very faint strike of Hong Kong type 7 despatch c.d.s. An incredibly rare handstamp on this delightful 'local' envelope

de Silver was also the U.S. consul in Macao between 1848-55
