Post Nanking Treaty
1844 (7 Mar.) and entire, stampless letter from Port of Spain in Trinidad, addressed to a member on board the corvette 'la Sabine' in Reunion. rated "2/1" (1/8d. plus 5d.), the address panel with "P-D" in oval, London Ship Letter datestamp and Paid c.d.s. (8.4), the reverse with British P.O. Trinidad despatch, Mauritius transit (24.7) and St. Denis, Ile Bourbon c.d.s. (30.7) but the ship has already left for the China Station and the letter forwarded to Hong Kong with type 7 c.d.s. (8.10). Exceptionally clean and fine; a delightful cover

Late in 1843 the French sent a second mission to China, initially to acquire a naval station en route but also instructed to obtain a treaty between France and China, similar in terms to the Nanking Treaty. The naval escort consisted on two frigates of 52 gun, three corvettes and a small steam warship
