1844 (4 June) a printed circular from Nye, Parkin & Co., Canton, headed "Postscript to Circular of May 10th; 15th 1844". The contents include,"... we have first to advise the arrival of H.E. Keying, appointed Imperial Commissioner and Governor-General ... proceeds to Macao at an early day to hold a parting interview with H.E. Sir Henry Pottinger, and to confer with him a treaty of friendship...". Other parts of this circular note the appointment of Francis Coleman MacGregor as H.M. Consul General at Canton; Capt. Balfour as H.M. Consul at Shanghae; Robert Thom as H.M. Consul at Ningpo. The circular carries on with details of trade including a paragraph on the opium trade, with details of the ships coming in with cargoes; the trade continued unrelentingly.
