1841 (7-8 Jan.) entire letter from James Wyllie to John Gladstone & Co, Liverpool "pr overland mail via Marseilles" bearing faint India oval, the flap with manuscript Singapore forwarding agent, London and Liverpool c.d.s. (10.4) and carried "pr 'Brigand'" to Bombay. There is a vertical filing crease and some paper ageing.


The postscript, added on the 8th includes, "A circular from Capt. Elliot stated yesterday has just been sent round, saying that in consequence of an interruption of negotiations, the Chuenpi and Tycocktow forts were taken that morning, after an obstinate reaction on the part of the Chinese. The loss on our part is said to be very little, but no doubt there must have been great slaughter amongst the Chinese..."



1841年1月7-8日澳門寄利物浦John Gladstone & Co 信函, 信函由輪船 "Brigand" 携往孟買; 封面上分別有 "pr overland mail via Marseilles" 字句, 模糊的㰐圓型"INDIA" 戳記, 封舌上有新加坡貨運代理的手䟢, 另蓋有倫敦及利物浦4月10日日戳. 信函有摺痕及老化. 信函内容主述1841年1月初英駐華遠征軍發動第二次穿鼻之戰, 集中炮轟虎門一帶, 並奪取了穿鼻及大角島两處的炮台重要陣地, 殿定了該次勝利的關鍵.
