The Admiral has brought down with him the 'Melville', 'Wellesley', 'Blenheim' and 'Modeste'. The 'Herald' joined him outside, we believe he went up to the Bogue yesterday, accompanied by the greater part of the squadron, and it is with no small anxiety that we wait for intelligence of his reception there - Captain Elliot left this morning to join him. "

The rev. Stanton was an English missionary who remained in Canton, despite the ruling that all British should leave. The arrest of Stanton created great concern until his release in December 1840
