1880 (14 Sept.) envelope ex the Ward correspondence from Lydenburg to Ireland, marked "via Kimberley & Cape Town", bearing 1878 1/- (torn in half prior to use) tied by "13" in concentric rings, showing despatch, Cape Town (28.9) and Limerick arrival (9.10) datestamps. Photo

Note: The envelope was written by Surgeon Ward of the 94th Regiment, which was sent to Pretoria and badly mauled at Bronkhorstspruit where they were ambushed by the Transvaal Boers.
