1856 (6 Dec.) small entire letter from King Williams Town in Kaffraria and posted at Grahams Town to Ireland, headed "No. 2761 Lce. Corpl. Richard Ryan 2/60th Royal Rifles", countersigned by Commanding Officer, bearing 1853 blued paper 1d. brick-red with clear to large margins nearly all round and tied by triangular obliterator, showing a good strike of the "soldier's & seamans letter/4/by ship" handstamp and, on reverse, Grahamstown, Cape Town (11.12) and three UK (24.2) datestamps; wear at folds and with adhesive tape stains at left from internal re-inforcement, nevertheless a very rare soldier's concessionary rate cover charged an extra 4d. on receipt as the letter was sent by a private ship rather than a British Packet.
