Auction: 21009 - World Banknotes
Lot: 222
National Bank of Egypt, remainder £10, (ND 1899-1910), blue-green on pink-brown and green underprint, Temple at Philae with two feluccas at left, value at top centre and corners, and low right in underprint, reverse teal, value at left and right
(Pick 4r, Hanafy M1r), in PMG holder 25 NET Very Fine, cancellations lightened, minor repairs, annotation. Under general circumstances, the remainder banknotes are kept without signatures or serial numbers under lock and key, in case authorities or serial number ranges would change. Once remainders have no more expected future use they are usually decommissioned and subsequently destroyed. However, in this case it is possible that some of these remainders were overprinted and kept for archival purposes. Judging from the facts that cancellations are lightened it is possible to believe that there was an attempt to mix them into the circulation with issued banknotes, no similar remainders recorded
