National Bank of Egypt, remainder £1, 25th June 1898, violet and reddish-orange, Arabic and English text, two camels, reverse guilloches, Arabic text
(Pick 2r, TBB B102r), in PMG holder 25 NET Very Fine, cancellations lightened, repaired. Under general circumstances, the remainder banknotes are kept without signatures or serial numbers under lock and key, in case authorities or serial number ranges would change. Once remainders have no more expected future use they are usually decommissioned and subsequently destroyed. However in this case it is possible that some of these remainders were overprinted and kept for archival purposes. Judging from the facts that cancellations are lightened it is possible to believe that there was an attempt to mix them into the circulation with issued banknotes, to find this denomination banknote in a presentable grade is incredibly rare, no similar remainders recorded
