Anglo-Saxon England, Continental Series (695-740), Sceat, Interlace or 'Maastricht' variety, draped bust left in pellet headdress, ending in triangle of pellets, behind, exaggerated chin, crude features, linear triangular neck, rev. Interlace cross with pellet in centre and trefoil in each quadrant, 1.26g (SL 60-30 plate coin; SCBI 69, 305 this coin; T&S pp. 258-62, 265-6; Spink 795), struck with a rusty obverse die resulting in the intricate portrait design being all but obliterated, otherwise of good fabric and well centred, very fine and extremely rare
