1896 (29 Aug.) small stampless Gunzburg envelope registered to Shanghai, crossed with red crayon and bearing a fine strike of the unframed "registered/no 265 in red and, on the reverse, a fine strike of the Chinkiang c.d.s., Shanghai Local Post c.d.s. (30.8) in red and the postman's delivery characters in red crayon. A fine and scarce use of the unframed registered handstamp, unusually without the Paid handstamp

The unframed registered handstamp was introduced in the first half of 1896, probably in June. See lot 1383
