Japanese Post Office: 1897 (13 Jan.) (c.) envelope to Iowa bearing 1c. cancelled by a light strike of circular Nanking Local Post postmark in purple, used with Japan War With China 5s. blue tied by "shanghai/i.j.p.o." c.d.s. (16.1) and, on the reverse, a very faint strike of Nanking Local Post dated oval, Shanghai Local Post c.d.s. (14.1) in black, Yokohama (21.1), San Francisco (14.2) and the arrival c.d.s. (17.2). Late use of these local post stamps (thought to be the latest international cover from Nanking) and a rare combination
