1894 (9 July) envelope from the Municipal Council registered to Shanghai bearing a fine strike of “kewkiang/paid/local post” oval struck in purple and with crossed red crayon marks, the reverse with a good strike of the Kewkiang Local Post dated oval and Shanghai Local Post arrival c.d.s. (12.7); there are two stain marks on the address side and a few hinge remainders on the reverse.


An interesting and very important cover. This is the earliest recordedd date of use of the Paid handstamp (previously recorded as in August) and very rare officially registered mail which was probably used before the introduction of the boxed registered handstamp. A very important and unique cover
