Ship and Packet Letter Sailings from The Cape of Good Hope
1878 (13 Aug.) envelope written by Major (later General Sir) Redvers Buller, VC, on the Cape Frontier en route to Zululand, to his sister in England, carried on the Balmoral Castle and bearing 6d. bright violet cancelled with indistinct numeral cancellation and with two datestamps on face panel; and 1878 (16 Dec.) soldier's envelope, "From No. 1822 Sergt. Lilly A.H.C. " (Army Hospital Corps) to Southampton, countersigned by the Commanding Officer, carried on the Edinburgh Castle and bearing 1d. carmine neatly cancelled "1" and with Cape Town datestamp at left; both with faults though an interesting duo written just before the Zulu War
