From Cape of Good Hope
1858 (Mar.) envelope from Port Elizabeth to Scotland carried by the Dane, and (May and July) envelopes from Cape Town to England carried on the Celt and Phoebe, all second return voyages, unstamped and showing "1d" handstamp with the first and last also with London datestamp, all three with despatch and Cape Town datestamps on reverse, all markings in red; the first with a horizontal crease though an interesting trio during the period (1 August 1857 and 1 November 1859) when posting at sea unpaid was allowed although discouraged in the Cape as such letters were not liable to a fine, the "1d" credited to the Cape
