1852-57 Private Ship Letters
1856 (21 Apr.) mourning envelope (light soiling) from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg with faint rate mark of "4" suggesting that the cover was originally posted at an inland office, bearing white paper 4d. blue with good margins nearly all round neatly cancelled and showing Crown datestamp in blue below, Cape Town datestamp on reverse; carried on the Charlotte from Cape Town on 28 April. Natal charge of 3d. per half-ounce made on delivery though not included on the cover
