1852-57 Private Ship Letters
1856 (11 Jan.) envelope from Cape Town to Tadcaster and redirected to Milford Junction, bearing white paper 4d. blue with two good to large margins and lightly cancelled, showing handstruck "8d" on face and, on reverse, Cape Town (2) and Plymouth datestamps, step-type "ship letter/plymouth" and Tadcaster datestamp, small manuscript "Misdirected" covered by recipients notation and apparently charged extra 1d. for forwarding; carried by the steamer Wellesley from India sailing from Cape Town to England after the collapse of the GSSSCo's second packet contract.
