1840-50 Ship Letters
1840-49 entire and entire letters (5), one written at sea and posted in Cape Town to Ireland, the others written in Cape Town to London, three with Crowned "general post office/cape of good hope", four with London Ship Letter handstamps (one in red) and three without, one with "general post office/Crown/cape town" handstamp and one redirected to Southampton and showing boxed "postage not paid/to london"; 1841 entire letter from Lieut. Richard Wilson Pelly on navy duty in Cape Town and to William Shores Fry of the Fry's Cocoa family in Upton, Essex, no Cape markings and with London "ship letter" handstamp (S36); and 1842 entire letter from Commander William Kelly on board Winchester at the Cape to Yorkshire without Cape markings and charged "2" as an unpaid inland letter. A few faults in places though an interesting group
