1795 (19 Sept.) entire from Lieut. (later Rear-Admiral) George Astle at Cape Town to his grandfather Thomas Astle (Keeper of the records at the Tower of London) at "Battersea Rise Surry", rated "4" and showing "gravesend/ship lre" (S1), part arrival datestamp on reverse. A scarce and unusual cover written just three days after the Dutch capitulation at Muizenberg. Photo
