1861 (19 April) ALS to his Uncle, General Francis Rawdon Chesney in Ireland writing to "let you know the state of things in Our once United States", explaining that "Our prospects for the future here are very gloomy. The union of the States that once constituted this mighty Republic has ceased to exist and we are now on the verge of a revolution". An interesting letter with relevance to the 1861-65 American Civil War.
