General Sir John Maxwell
Two ALS as commander of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force, the first being 1914 (26 Oct.) to Lord Edward Cecil with mention of an order for new clothes, asking "do you think that if we retain these old clothes it will put off the invasion of Egypt for a few days? If so we might stick to the for a bit longer - How on earth did they get to Egypt?". The second being 1915 (9 Jan.) also to Cecil discussing the "two brothers Lindemann of Alexandria, One of them recently did not behave as he should have done & moreover they are Germans. I have therefore decided to send them both to Malta". Together with two cut signatures and short note signed by Maxwell and initialled by Lord Edward Cecil.

Sir John Maxwell (1859-1929) served as Commander of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force (1914-16), nicknamed 'Bloody Maxwell' for his involvement in the Irish 'Easter Rising'.
