Gordon Relief Expedition, Sudan
1884 (22 Oct.) neatly written ALS in form of diary over four pages from John Francis Burn-Murdoch, 2nd Lieutenant, with original cover postmarked from Esneh and endorsed "On active service". Better extracts from letter read: Tuesday 21st "Reached Luxor at 3 o'clock. Strange to see about 700 British soldiers strolling about the temples. Some of the fellows went to the British Consul's house at Luxor and came back with a lot of curiosities. Rodney gave me part of the case of a mummy." An interesting letter.
