1846, 1849 two entire letters with the 'coburg / date' two line postmark in red, indicating free postage. The content written on elaborate printed notepaper of Duke Ernst II of Saxe Coburg and Gotha (1818-1893), elder brother of Prince Albert. He allowed the Thurn and Taxis post to operate in the territory and received a free postal concession in return. The letters show evidence of having been sewn closed, a method applied to ensure confidentiality.
