1839 Part printed Police Office, Hobart Town pass, amended in manuscript as issued from Campbell Town, in the name of Henry Stewart, "a Prisoner" permitting him to "look for work" and return ten days later. With his personal details completed on the reverse and other regulations to be followed while on temporary release.
Stewart was convicted of larceny at the Lancaster Quarter Sessions on 4 January 1832 and sentenced to 14 years transportation, sailing aboard the ship "Katherine Stewart Forbes" (as stated on the reverse of the pass), arriving at Hobart in July 1832.
A fascinating item relating to the early workings of the penal system in Tasmania.
