John Hodgson (1779–1845) was an English clergyman and antiquary who assisted Sir Humphry Davy (1778–1829) in inventing the miners' gas lamp. Hodgson was influential in identifying Methane and the pair are known to have met in Newcastle in the summer of 1815.
