Emmeline Pankhurst
Two 1914 ALS from 36 Buckingham Gate, SW, both to "Miss James", the first being 11 Sept. thanking her for the offer of her "dear little home at Renley" but declining as "I am obliged to be in London". The later being 24th Nov, over two pages, this time accepting her offer of lodgings, mentioning also that "Now, everybody (the Govt. included) seems quite accustomed to the idea of Zeppelin raids & we are not afraid of them. I am however leaving this address in a few days not on account of danger but because my tenancy comes to an end this month". Both signed "E. Pankhurst" and both with original envelope.

Emmeline Pankhurst (1858-1928) was an English political activist known for founding the 'Women's Social & Political Union', later the 'Women's Party'. The WSPU were known for their aggressive methods of protest.
