Napoleonic Wars
St. Helena
1808 (9-18 July) printed page from log book of the "Woodford" at St. Helena recording 'Courses', 'Winds &c.', 'Condition', with a larger space for general observations. Together with a lengthy letter over three pages from Richard Bayldon a Cadet stopping at Myrtle Bower in St. Helena while on voyage to Bengal writing "The people here are so indolent they never once turn the Earth up, but let the (?) Bushes and all kinds of Rubbish grow. When we arrived within a few leagues of the Island I thought it was not possible for any human Being to love on but as we approached nearer I was astonished to see even signal Posts and Batteries upon mountains two or 3000 yards high". Some weakness and separation along folds. Interesting.
