Great Britain: A Royal Warrant, handsigned by Queen Mary II, Whitehall, 22nd April 1692, addressed to the Commissioners of the Treasury for the payment of £4,000 to John Braguiere Esq, to be distributed for the relief of the distressed French Protestants (Hugenots). Handsigned by Sidney Goldolphin (1st Baron Godolphin), Richard Hampden (also chancelor of the Exchequer), Sir Stephen Fox, Sir Edward Seymour and Charles Montagu (later to become chancellor of the Exchequer from 1694), Treasury Commissioners. Protestantism was suppressed in France from the 16th century and especially after the Edict of Fontainebleau in 1685 which ended any legal recognition of the faith and they were forced to either convert or flee as refugees.
