Derrick William Savoy was a member of the 27th & 31st Kensington Boy Scouts before the Second World War. He served as a Wireless Operator in the Lancasters of No. 106 Squadron, flying his first sortie on Turin on 12 July 1943. He completed a further six Ops, on Hamburg, Essen, twice to Milan, Leyverkusen and Gladbach. His final Op was a sortie to Munich on the night of 6 September 1943, when ED819 crashed at Grünwald, 13km south-west of Munich. He is buried in the Durnbach War Cemetery; sold together with various original letters of condolence related to the loss of Savoy.
