Herbert Tappin was born at Kensington, London on 30 April 1899 and was a shop assistant upon his initial enlistment as Boy Class 2 on 18 January 1916 and served aboard Pyramus as Signalling Boy from 3 December 1916. She had just earned fame for the destruction of the Königsberg in the Rufiji delta. Advanced Ordinary Signalman on 30 April 1917, he served aboard Grafton just before the battle of Jaffra. Tappin remained in service until January 1928; sold with copied service record.
