James Victor Newman was born on 6 March 1900 at Banbury and was a machinist upon his enlistment on 6 March 1918. He served afloat with Resolution from 5 June 1918 and would have seen the surrender of the German Fleet on 21 November 1918. Newman served aboard St Fagain and Tiger and was discharged on 16 October 1928. Newman died in September 1998; sold together with copied service record and research including two photographs of the recipient.
