The following four lots are the property of Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, Bart., OBE, the distinguished Polar explorer. Sir Ranulph is selling these pictures, once the property of his father, to benefit the funds of the Regimental Museum of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys) in Edinburgh Castle.

Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, Bart., DSO, (1902-43) served in The Royal Scots Greys from 1923, commanding the Regiment from 1942 until dying of wounds received in Italy in 1943; he was posthumously created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) in 1944. His son (b. 1944) served in the Regiment 1966-70, being attached to 22nd SAS from 1966.

Each mounted and glazed and contained within a narrow black wooden frame, 318mm x 242mm. The four images, the plates from the above publication, depict officers and men of The Royal Scots Greys at various times in the Regiment's history and are captioned to the reverse as follows.

(i). Privates of the Regiment 'on the Line of March', 1743.
(ii). Officers and/or men of the Regiment for the years 1704, 1742, 1799, 1811 and 1815.
(iii). Two Regimental guidons, the French Eagle captured at Waterloo, officers of 1831 and 1854, privates of 1850, 1864 and 1893, the Regimental badge and Mrs Christian Davies, 'Mother Ross'.
(iv). A Regimental group in the Review Order of 1893 including two officers, a trumpeter, a sergeant and three privates, together with a private in the Marching Order of the same date.

The four images have all suffered some damage from damp and are foxed to both recto and verso.
