(x) Pair: Private S., Parachute Regiment, who was severely wounded by an RPG in Afghanistan in August 2008, a tour for the 2nd Battalion which recorded the highest fatality rate for any unit to have served in Iraq or Afghanistan

Private S.,, a native of Liverpool was born in 1983 and served with the 2nd Battalion, Parachute Regiment in Afghanistan in 2008. His Camp Bastion Discharge letter states:
'Injuries
1) Penetrating abdominal trauma - repair of colonic injuries and splenic packing.
2) Multiple fragmentation injuries- debrided.
He was taken to theatre as an emergency and had primary repair of his colonic injuries at the splenic flexure and had his spleen packed which fortunately stopped bleeding. He has had a good course apart from a fragmentation injury over his left shoulder which looks slightly infected and has been left to heal by secondary intention.'
