A Second World War East Africa B.E.M. group of three awarded to Enlisted Asian Clerk C. R. Cota, King's African Rifles

British Empire Medal, Military Division, G.VI.R. (CA.2400 Clerk Constancie R. Cota. K.A.R.), officially impressed naming on pre-prepared ground; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, mounted for wear, cleaned, good very fine and unusual (3)

B.E.M. London Gazette 8 June 1944. The original recommendation states:

'Headquarters 2nd Echelon, East Africa Command. Enlisted Asian Clerk Constancia Rodrigues Cota, King's African Rifles.

This Clerk was a civilian until the outbreak of War. He has been employed in the King's African Rifles continuously since 1917 and was Chief Clerk, Southern Brigade, King's African Rifles, from its formation until it was absorbed on Mobilization.

Throughout his long service he has shown marked devotion to duty. He has given service of a high degree of merit over a long period of years and has frequently been called upon to undertake work not included in his ordinary duties.'
