M.M. London Gazette 18 October 1944. The original recommendation states:
'This Spr of 2 Ind Fd Coy IE has taken part in all work and operations undertaken by the Coy from 1 June 44-31 Aug 44.
Operations include clearing of the Kohima-Imphal Road and the Jessami Track from 1 June-22 June 44 and from 8 July to 25 July 44 on the Silchar Track and the advance down the Tiddim Road by 5 Ind Div from 25 July-31 Aug 44.
Engineer work undertaken by night and day in which he had been engaged has included defusing of booby traps, repairing craters, clearing road blocks and landslides, recces of roads and tracks in enemy held territory often under enemy observation fire.
Spr Dalip Singh had not misssed any work undertaken by his section, and on the Jessami Track when suffering from dysentry refused to be evacuated to hospital.
His fortitude under most difficult conditions and never failing cheerfulness at all times, his capacity for work and keeness have commended himself to all his senior officers and has been a magnificent example to all his comrades.'
Dalip Singh was a Sikh Jat from Sherpura, Ludhiana; sold with copied recommendation and letter upon accessing it in 1987.
