Mark Thomas Blakeway was born on 30 April 1984 and enlisted at Birmingham on 5 June 2001. He served with 3 Platoon, 1 Company, Irish Guards, who laid claim to have been the first unit into Basra City during the invasion. Their story graced the front cover of The Guardian Weekend in September 2008. That image was captured mid-patrol during a break in any action and the faces show just how busy the 34 men had been. The story of the Platoon and its members was told in depth in the magazine and revealed that the Blakeway twins had returned to the Black Country. Mark left the Army on 3 May 2006; sold together with copied Certificate of Service.
