'Silver Fire Medal and Vote of Thanks to Nurse Mrs Margaret Helen Thompson, for courageously extinguishing the burning clothes and rendering first aid to a servant girl whose clothes had caught fire while washing in Ramilies Road on 20 September. Mrs Thompson sustained serious injuries to her arms and hands, and was for three weeks under medical treatment.'

Margaret Helen Thompson went to the assistance of Margaret Devon in the aforementioned action, who was working next door to her. Having extinguished the flames, both were taken to the Royal Infirmary, but Devon died the next day (The Cork Examiner, 24 September 1904, refers).
