George Gordon Scarratt was born in April 1885 at Tranmere, the son of Joseph Scarratt and Margaret Laidman Dodd of Birkenhead, Cheshire. Baptised on 19 April 1885 at St. Catherine's, Tranmere, his family are recorded in the 1901 Census for England as residing at 40 Seymour Street, Birkenhead, where George's two elder brothers are working as a furnishing salesman and an accountants clerk. He married Gwendoline Price in 1916 and died at the West Denbighshire Hospital, Colwyn Bay, on 7 February 1967, having spent his final days residing at the Meadowcroft Hotel, Rhos-on-Sea.
