Donald George Adam MacRae was born on 17 August 1923, the son of Mrs S. MacRae of 12 Moray Terrace, Brora, Sutherlandshire, Scotland. An oxy-acetylene welder by trade, he attested for the 2nd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry on 18 May 1944. A later note which accompanies the group states that he landed in Normandy on D+1, witnessing combat at Bourguebus Ridge, Falaise and on the Rhine, making reference to being wounded in action on 18 January 1945.
Sold with original cap badge and a photograph of the recipient atop an armoured vehicle.
