1939-45 Star; Africa Star, clasp, 1st Army; Italy Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, with O.H.M.S. box of issue addressed to 'Mr F. McDermott, 64 Colonial Street, Hull.', with medal award slip confirming entitlement, full length ribbons and packets of issue, extremely fine (5)
Frank McDermott was born on 17 September 1917, the son of Mary Ann McDermott and brother to Mary Winifred McDermott of Hull. Enlisting at Leeds on 18 January 1940, he passed his medical tests 'A1' and was posted to the 2/4th Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Sent to France, it is believed that he was wounded on 17 June 1940, later seeing extensive service in North Africa and during the Italian campaign; sold with Soldier's Service and Pay Book, two original card identity tags impressed to '4693271 F. McDermott, R.C.', contemporary brass cap badge and corresponding sweetheart brooch, fabric shoulder title and K.O.Y.L.I. Regimental Association Life Membership book, inscribed to 'F. McDermott, 64 Colonial Street, Hull', dated June 1945.
