Four: Private J. Keough, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, who was captured in the Western Desert and later spent almost 3 years behind the wire in Italy and Germany

James Keough was born in 1903 and enlisted in Birmingham for the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry on 9 December 1922. Initially serving at home, most likely the Depot at Bodmin, Kough served in India from 1 February 1924-15 January 1932 and again from 7 March 1938-10 November 1941, before being sent to Iraq, Palestine, Egypt and Cyrenaica. Serving with the 1st Battalion, his unit was overrun at Bir El Harmat during the Battle of Knightsbridge Box and Keough was taken prisoner on 5 June 1942. Released on 20 May 1945, he returned home and spent a further 282 days doing duty before being released from service with the Colours on 3 March 1946, his conduct and character rated as 'exemplary':

'Has been a very trustworthy, reliable and efficient soldier, as exemplified by the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Is highly recommennded for civil employment in a position of trust and responsibility.'

Sold with Regular Army Certificate of Service, base-metal P.O.W. identity tags (2), impressed 'Stalag IVB 220945', D.C.L.I. brass shoulder titles and assorted badges (6), and brass and enamel regimental sweetheart brooch; further entitled to Regular Army L.S. & G.C..
