Gibson. 248 Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth, Hants.', with compliment slip, additionally hand-annotated in ink '7882902. W. Gibson (MAC). Tank Corps. P.O.W. Stalag. 383. Died. 4th Oct. 1968, Aged 54.', extremely fine (3)
Watson Gibson was born on 17 June 1912 and attested for the 2nd Armoured Division on 9 June 1931. A household removals driver by occupation, he served in Greece with the 3rd Battalion, Royal Tank Regiment, R.A.C., and was captured at Kalmata on 29 June 1941. He spent the remainder of the war engaged upon general work at P.O.W. camps in Marburg, Spittal and Hohenfels in Bavaria, being repatriated home to Bournemouth in April 1945. It was here that he died in October 1968; sold with three original photographs of the recipient, copied service record and research.
