Six: Private J. A. Summers, King's Shropshire Light Infantry
1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Italy Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45; Efficiency Medal, G.VI.R., Territorial (4455512 Pte. J. A. Summers. K.S.L.I.), good very fine (6)
Sold with an original group photograph of uniformed men in which Summers is identified. A number appear to be wearing a Royal Artillery cap badge, which may explain the Atlantic Star within the group. This was awarded to Royal Artillery Gunners posted aboard Merchant Navy ships in order to help in their defence during the hazardous Atlantic Convoy operations. It is therefore possible that Summers may have seen service with the Shropshire Yeomanry which performed an artillery role during the Second World War, elements of which served in Italy.
