Ernest Wilberforce Davies, a native of Llanelly, was born in 1892 and was educated at Llanelly National and Intermediate Schools, at Llandovery College and at St. David's College, Lampeter, where he was in training for holy orders on the outbreak of war. In August 1914 he enlisted in The Welch Regiment (No.13279), but was later transferred to the Royal Army Medical Corps. Davies served with the 39th Field Ambulance in Egypt from 5 July 1915. He died of wounds at Gallipoli on 13 August 1915 and is buried in the 7th Field Ambulance Cemetery, Turkey. He was originally buried at Walden's Point.
